Bring on the Excitement!!!

The long weekend is quickly approaching and with it some exciting events! Take a few moments so see what is happening at the hill and we will see you there!


Family Day Weekend:

Just a reminder, regular race programming throughout Family Day Weekend for the entire Jozo Weider Alpine Race Team – all ages (U10, U12, U14, U16, U18) on both Saturday and Sunday. Race timing and training schedule is unchanged. But it will be busy at Blue this week. So give yourself some extra time to get to & from the slopes. Also, please note that on Saturday we will use the three Weider Rooms as our meeting place / lunch room (not our usual Kandahar Room) due to the Mark McCoy presentation in the Weider Room in the afternoon. See you at Blue for a great Family Day Weekend.


Annual Family Challenge:

Once again it has come to the time of year when parents have the opportunity to prove who is top dog in the course (or go down in crushing defeat). On Saturday and Sunday, at 10 am, on Calamity is the annual Kids against the parents. Parents go head to head with the kids in the course for the years bragging rights! Are you up for the challenge? Make sure you see Nikki and sign your waiver so you are ready to go. Good Luck and we will see you on the hill (or licking your wounds after).


Mark McCoy @ Jozo – Saturday February 18th:

Olympic Gold Medalist - Coming to Speak with Jozo Coaches, Racers, and Families! Among many very impressive achievements, Mark McCoy won Olympic Gold in the 60 meter hurdles at the 1992 Barcelona Games. He has since gone on to become “a recognized expert in empowering and training others in how to have a mindset of champion and apply it to get breakthrough results everywhere in life, including in health & fitness, and in building winning teams and support structures.” Mark will be coming to Blue to speak to the entire Jozo Weider Alpine Race Team and Ski Club on Saturday of Family Day weekend.

Family Day Après Ski Cocktails – Sunday February 19th:

A Family Day Après ski cocktail party will take place on the Sunday February 19th on Family Day weekend. We will meet in the Kandahar Room & Weider 3 within The Inn (our normal lunch room) at 2:30 until 5pm. We will be distributing all pre-purchased Jozo Gear, selling off extra garments from previous years and enjoying a little après ski conviviality. Please plan to bring the whole family for a little Club après.


JOZO Gear:

JOZO ordered gear handed out Sunday from 12 noon and through the Family Day Apres.



Red Jackets for next year  can be ordered the first weekend of March. Times to follow.


Jozo Shopping Night @ MEC – March 8th:

Make sure you drop by MEC to stock up on any equipment or supplies you need before March Break! Jozo Ski Club members are invited to a special shopping night at MEC Toronto and MEC North York. Purchases made during this event (March 8th, 2017) will receive a 10% discount. Please visit the Jozo Table or the Member Service Desk at MEC Toronto (400 King Street West) or MEC North York (784 Sheppard Ave. East) on March 8th to collect your discount card. Discount applies in-store only. 10% discount applies to all regular-priced, in-stock items.

Although a few specific products may be excluded from this discount (including Blundstone footwear, Intense bikes, MEC services, etc. But most merchandise is included! Men’s Day 2017:

Men’s Day 2017 was a huge success with a record number of Jozo dads and guests totaling 60.  Between breakfast at the Pottery and lunch at Rusty’s the group enjoyed fantastic skiing conditions and got a taste of what their young racers experience as we attempted a GS course on Smart Alec.  For the umpteenth year in a row, Mat Salhani is the "fastest man alive". Club Championships:

It’s time to start planning as excitement is beginning to build towards the Club Championships on the weekend of March 4th/5th . Here are the things you need to know.

All races will be held on Smart Alec beginning on the morning of Saturday March 4th, and ending on the morning of Sunday March 5th. The schedule of races will be posted on our website. The awards banquet for all travelling two-day U12, U14, U16 and U18 teams will be Saturday evening at the Blue Mountain Conference Centre. Tickets for this event are sold out. Awards for all U10 and non-travelling U12 teams will be presented following the races. No tickets are required for the U10/U12 non-travelling awards ceremony - stay tuned for specific location for these award ceremonies.


Club Championship Competition:

All racers within the same age category will compete within the same Club Championships race. Which means our U14 O-Cup racers will compete against the rest of our amazing U14 athletes. The Board of the Jozo Volunteer Committee has elected to have only one category for each age group for 2017 as we believe the true spirit of a Club Championships is to have an open competition among all members of the club, regardless of the league each athlete competes in during the season.  The Board believes that while an advantage may be gained by additional training, all athletes are entitled to take on additional training as they see fit, and all racers should be entitled to lay sole claim to the title “Club Champion”.   We expect some spirited completion this year and we look forward to an exciting 2017 Championships. Club Championship Volunteers:

All Club Championship races will be held on Smart Alec beginning on the morning of Saturday March 4th, and ending on the morning of Sunday March 5th. The schedule of races will be posted on our website at These races cannot be held without volunteers. If you want to volunteer or if you have not yet volunteered - please do so for the Club Championships.

Sign up here: We need five sets of volunteers for the following races (feel free to volunteer for more than one race):
U10 Saturday + U12 Saturday
U10 Sunday, U12 Sunday, and U10 2 day
U16 + U18!


Medals & Merit Awards:

Awards this year will be presented in much the same manner as previous years.  U10 and non-travelling U12 athletes will receive medals and top performers within each age category (boys and girls) will receive merit medals. U12, U14, U16 & U18 racers will see a set of Team awards presented (Top Boy, Top Girl, Most Spirited, and Most Improved). These are chosen by the coaches. We will also award Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for the Club Championships top racers. Additionally, the top 5 finishers in U12, U14, U16 and U18, races and the winners of the Best Boy, Girl, Spirit and Most Improved will receive gift certificates from Mountain Equipment Co-Op.


World Cup Ski Cross:

Please note Blue Mountain Resort will be hosting the World Cup Ski Cross on the same weekend as our Club Championships.  While this will be a very exciting event, and something very special for our young athletes to witness, it will also bring additional congestion to Blue Mountain’s facilities, including The Blue Mountain Inn (our home base), as the finish area will be at the base of the Century Express.  Please plan accordingly – arrive early, car pool (if possible), plan to spend more of the weekend at Central (The Village) than the Inn etc.


Elan Pro Racing Ski Raffle!!!!

Elan Canada has generously donated a new pair Elan SLX Waveflex 160cm slalom skis and ELX 12.0 Fusion Bindings ($1400 USD Value) to support the Jozo Weider Alpine Racing Team and the development of our athletes. We will be selling raffle tickets for $10 each or 3 for $20 beginning Sunday Feb. 19th at the Family Day cocktail at the Blue Mountain Inn and continue to sell raffle tickets through to the club championships and banquet.  The draw will be help on Sunday March 5th at the Blue Mountain Inn Jozo Weider area at lunch time.


King of The Hill (Queens too):

Calling all Jozo Parents. The King of the Hill is back on. What is the King of the Hill? Every year (mostly) we have a race for parents and adult racers between Jozo and TCS. As you may know Jozo has a friendly rivalry with TCS, so this is a fun spirited event, followed by drinks and good comradery. It’s a great opportunity to try your luck at racing against like aged and skilled skiers. Don’t be shy, give it a try. By the way, Jozo is the defending champions. The race is March 25 in the morning. More details to come.
